Dr. Joe Dispenza- Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself

Who you are inside dictates what happens to you, so you have the power to choose a new reality. In his book, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, Dr. Joe Dispenza explains how you can overcome your downsides and become the person you truly want to be.

Your brain as you know it is a record of your environment and an artefact of your past. Every single time you do something or you think about something, your brain is creating patterns and habits. Even more than this, your body reacts to your thoughts in a surprising way.

When you think about something, regardless if it’s a positive or a negative thought, your brain releases chemicals that make you feel the way you think.

When you feel a certain way, you also think about what you feel. What happens next?

Exactly, the entire process starts all over again. This means that you get in a cycle of thoughts and feelings and if you don’t do anything to break it, you can live in it for decades. This becomes your state of being, as your body and your mind work together.

Another important aspect to understand is the fact that by thinking about something you can create the same neuronal connections as if you were actually doing it. Let’s say you bake for 2 hours every day for 2 weeks; your brain will create new patterns and connections as you practice and memorize what you have to do. The fascinating thing is that if you think about baking for 2 hours every day, and you visualize in your mind the process as well as the results, your brain creates the same neuronal connection.

What does this mean?

As Dr. Dispenza explains, most of the people believe that in order to become who you want to be you have to think about it, then you have to do what it needs to be done and then you will be who you want to be. In reality, however, you can simply choose to be who you want, then everything will change accordingly. You will start doing the things that need to be done, you will think in the right way and you will feel like the person you always wanted to be.

I am sure you heard before about “Fake it ‘till you make it”.

Well, it is a similar concept, as you can train your mind to create the right connections and patterns, then you will start acting and thinking accordingly.

What is the vital element in all this?

The emotional charge behind the idea. One of the things that the greatest people have in common is that they truly believed in their ideas on an emotional level, and they managed to think greater than what they perceived as unfavourable environment.


How can you apply all this in your life and break the habit of being yourself?

As Dr. Dispenza explains in his book, the best way to do this is through meditation. Knowledge and information, accompanied by meditation, can help you change the patterns in your brain and they can allow you to “cheat” your system by being, then doing and then thinking about it.
